- In a mixing bowl, cut the chilled butter into the cake mix as for pastry dough.
- Set aside 1 cup of the crumb mixture.
- Pat the remaining crumbs onto the bottom and 1/2 inch up the sides of a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
- Spread the cherry or blueberry pie filling over the crust.
- Combine the walnuts with the reserved crumbs and sprinkle over the top of the pie filling.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
