A delicious cherry crumb dessert featuring a buttery cake crumb topping, sweet cherry filling, and crunchy walnuts, perfect for family gatherings or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, chilled
  • 1 (18 1/2 oz.) package yellow cake mix
  • 1 (21 oz.) can cherry or blueberry pie filling
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • Whipped cream or ice cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cut the chilled butter into the cake mix as for pastry dough.
  2. Set aside 1 cup of the crumb mixture.
  3. Pat the remaining crumbs onto the bottom and 1/2 inch up the sides of a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
  4. Spread the cherry or blueberry pie filling over the crust.
  5. Combine the walnuts with the reserved crumbs and sprinkle over the top of the pie filling.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes.
  7. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
