Instructions
- Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan.
- Stir in milk and cook over hot heat, stirring constantly, until thick.
- Remove from heat.
- Gradually stir at least half of the hot mixture into the beaten eggs.
- Blend the egg mixture into the hot mixture in the saucepan.
- Cook for 1 minute.
- Remove from heat.
- Add chocolate pieces and stir until melted.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- Cook to lukewarm, stirring occasionally.
- Blend sour cream into the chocolate mixture.
- Pour the filling into the pastry shell and refrigerate until set.
- Top with whipped cream or garnish if desired.
