Decadent chocolate pie with rich, creamy filling made from semi-sweet chocolate and a tender pastry shell, perfect for chocolate lovers and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 pint dairy sour cream
  • 1 nine-inch pastry shell
  • whipped cream topping or garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Stir in milk and cook over hot heat, stirring constantly, until thick.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Gradually stir at least half of the hot mixture into the beaten eggs.
  5. Blend the egg mixture into the hot mixture in the saucepan.
  6. Cook for 1 minute.
  7. Remove from heat.
  8. Add chocolate pieces and stir until melted.
  9. Stir in vanilla extract.
  10. Cook to lukewarm, stirring occasionally.
  11. Blend sour cream into the chocolate mixture.
  12. Pour the filling into the pastry shell and refrigerate until set.
  13. Top with whipped cream or garnish if desired.
