Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. flour, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • 1 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, soda and salt into bowl.
  2. Add shortening, sugar, egg, water and vanilla.
  3. Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in oats.
  5. Divide dough into 2 parts.
  6. To one part, add melted chocolate.
  7. Roll out chocolate dough between 2 sheets of waxed paper to form a rectangle about 15 x 16 inches.
  8. Roll out plain dough the same way.
