Ingredients

  • 1 C butter
  • 1 C sugar
  • 1 Tbsp white corn syrup
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 1 pkg almonds or walnuts
  • 1 6 oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate morsels

Instructions

  1. Butter a cookie sheet and set aside.
  2. In a 2-quart saucepan, melt the butter over moderate heat.
  3. Gradually stir in the sugar until well combined.
  4. Add the corn syrup and water, then cook over moderate heat.
  5. Stir occasionally until a small amount in cold water becomes very brittle, indicating the toffee has reached the correct temperature.
  6. Pour the hot toffee mixture onto the buttered cookie sheet and spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the chocolate morsels over the hot toffee and let sit for a few minutes until melted.
  8. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee, then sprinkle with almonds or walnuts.
  9. Allow toffee to cool completely and set before breaking into pieces.
