Citrus-Beer Punch

- Remove peel from the lemons and set aside.
- Juice the lemons to obtain about 2 cups of lemon juice.
- In a large saucepan, stir together the sugar and water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Add the reserved lemon peel to the boiling mixture.
- Remove from heat and cover, letting stand for 5 minutes.
- Discard the lemon peel.
- Add the lemon juice and grapefruit juice to the sugar mixture.
- Transfer the mixture to a 2 1/2 to 3-quart pitcher, cover, and chill completely.
- Just before serving, add chilled light beer and cracked ice to the pitcher.
- Garnish with lemon slices if desired and serve.
