Ingredients

  • 4 c. fresh ground coconut
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or oleo
  • 1 c. evaporated milk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients except vanilla in a saucepan.
  2. Cook over low heat, mixing well, until a boiling point is reached and sugar is melted.
  3. Keep mixing to prevent burning.
  4. Reduce heat when thick; continue cooking until thick and leaves sides of pan to form a lump.
  5. Add vanilla; mix well.
  6. Turn into a buttered 10-inch plate without pressing down.
  7. Cut while still warm, but do not separate.
