Covered walnuts feature sweet, crunchy walnuts coated with a light meringue and baked until golden, making a delightful treat perfect for snacking or sharing at gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups walnuts
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup sugar or honey
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Bake walnuts on a cookie sheet for 15 minutes at 350°F.
  2. While baking, beat egg whites until stiff.
  3. Fold egg whites into sugar (or honey) and salt.
  4. Add the toasted walnuts to the mixture.
  5. Melt 1/2 cup butter in a shallow baking pan.
  6. Pour the walnut mixture into the melted butter.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes at 325°F, stirring every 10 minutes.
