Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 2/3 c. uncooked rice
  • 1/4 c. onions, chopped
  • 1/4 c. bell peppers, chopped
  • 1 large cabbage
  • 1 stick butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Mix ground beef and rice.
  2. Add onions and bell peppers.
  3. Mix. Cut heart out of cabbage.
  4. Put cabbage in kettle and fill 1/2 way with water.
  5. Steam until leaves are wilted.
  6. Remove cabbage and remove leaves.
  7. Roll a piece of hamburger mixture into a large meatball.
  8. Shape and put in base of unfolded cabbage leaf.
  9. Fold leaf sides in and roll up.
  10. Place in large pot. Continue with rest of leaves and mixture, placing a pat of butter in and around each layer.
  11. Fill pot with 3/4 water.
  12. Cook 2 hours.
  13. Salt to taste.
