Dark Cocoa Pie

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. milk (or water)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 baked pie shell

Instructions

  1. Line a deep pie pan with pie crust.
  2. Bake quickly 10 to 15 minutes
  3. in hot oven.
  4. Scald the milk.
  5. Sift cocoa, flour, sugar and
  6. salt. Gradually
  7. add scalded
  8. milk, mixing well. Cook, stirring
  9. constantly until thick.
  10. Slightly beat yolks. Add
  11. a little
  12. of the thick mixture to yolks, then add all to the cooked mixture.
  13. Cook
  14. a while
  15. longer, stirring.
  16. Add butter
  17. and vanilla.
  18. Pour
  19. into
  20. baked pie shell.
  21. Let cool. Beat
  22. egg whites
  23. with
  24. 3
  25. tablespoons of sugar for meringue. Brown.
