  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups Rice Crispies
  • 1 to 2 cups flaked coconut
  • sheet of aluminum foil

  1. Cook margarine or butter, chopped dates, and sugar over low heat for 10 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups Rice Crispies.

Tips & Substitutions

For easier mixing, soften the margarine or butter before cooking. If you prefer a healthier twist, substitute half of the sugar with honey or maple syrup. You can also use almond flour instead of Rice Crispies for a gluten-free option. To enhance flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a pinch of salt to the mixture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different types of nuts in this recipe?

Yes, you can incorporate chopped nuts like walnuts, pecans, or almonds for added texture and flavor. Just be sure to adjust the amount of Rice Crispies accordingly if you add nuts to maintain the right consistency.

Is it possible to make these date balls vegan?

Absolutely! To make vegan date balls, substitute the egg with a flaxseed meal or chia seed mixture (1 tablespoon of flaxseed or chia mixed with 2.5 tablespoons of water, let sit until gel-like). Use vegan margarine or coconut oil instead of butter.

What can I do if my mixture is too sticky?

If your date mixture is too sticky to handle, you can add more Rice Crispies or flaked coconut to help absorb the moisture. Dust your hands with a bit of coconut or powdered sugar when rolling them to prevent sticking.
