Ingredients

  • 6 doves, cut up
  • bacon drippings
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 teaspoon pepper
  • 7 bay leaves
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 pint sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Brown the dove pieces well in bacon drippings in a deep pan.
  2. Add water, salt, pepper, bay leaves, and minced garlic.
  3. Sprinkle in paprika.
  4. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until the dove is tender.
  5. Remove dove pieces from the stock and set aside 2 cups of gravy to cool.
  6. Mix sour cream slowly with the cooled gravy to prevent curdling, until smooth.
  7. Stir the sour cream mixture into the gravy in the pan with the cornstarch.
  8. Return the dove pieces to the pan and reheat.
  9. Serve with egg drop dumplings, mashed potatoes, or brown rice.
