Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon dried orange peel or 2 teaspoons fresh orange peel, grated
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 8 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom seeds or pods
  • 750 ml dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup vodka or brandy

Instructions

  1. Bring water, orange peel, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom to a boil, then simmer gently for 30 minutes.
  2. Strain and reserve the liquid.
  3. Add sugar, red wine, and vodka or brandy to the strained liquid.
  4. Heat gently and serve with blanched almonds and raisins.
