Ingredients

  • 8 cups flour
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups lukewarm water or milk

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, sugar, and salt together in a large bowl.
  2. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of warm water.
  3. Make a cavity in the center of the flour; put in shortening, egg, and yeast mixture.
  4. Blend well.
  5. Add the remaining warm water gradually.
  6. Mix well until a soft dough is formed.
  7. Knead dough for about 5 minutes on a lightly floured board.
  8. Let it stand in a warm place until it doubles in size.
  9. Shape dough and place in a greased pan.
  10. Let it rise again for about 45 minutes.
  11. Bake in a 450°F oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
