Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups sifted cake flour
  • 6 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and shortening together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add 2 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Alternately add sifted cake flour and remaining eggs, beating after each addition until smooth.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a tube pan.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 50 minutes at 350°F, then increase oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Do not open the oven during baking.
  8. Let cake cool in the pan for 20 minutes, then turn out onto a plate to cool completely.
