Ingredients

  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 to 3 drops food color (optional)

Instructions

  1. Beat the egg whites at low speed for 20 minutes until they are raised and frothy.
  2. Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat.
  3. Add vanilla extract last and mix well.
  4. Using a tablespoon, place meringue dollops one inch apart on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 250°F (120°C) for 1 hour.
  6. Optional: Add 2 to 3 drops of food color to the meringue mixture before baking.
