  • 1 Tbsp. shortening or butter
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Sift and measure the self-rising flour.
  2. Cut the shortening or butter into the flour until well distributed.
  3. Break the egg into a measuring cup and add water until the total volume reaches 3/4 cup.
  4. Add the egg mixture to the flour and mix lightly with a fork until combined.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter over boiling meat and broth or into a well-greased steamer placed over boiling water.
  6. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the dumplings are tender.
