Ingredients

  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 cups flour
  • 7-9 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Pour batter into a greased tube pan.
  7. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 1 1/2 hours, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool before removing from the pan.
  9. Optional: freeze for longer storage if desired.
