Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 4 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Combine warm water, salt, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and stir to combine.
  3. Let the mixture sit covered for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  4. Mix in flour with a spoon until dough forms.
  5. Put the dough on a well-floured surface.
  6. Shape the dough into an oval, then cut in half, stretch, and twist each piece.
  7. Place the shaped dough on a greased cookie sheet.
  8. Cover with a dish towel and let sit in a warm place for 20 minutes.
  9. Make 1/2-inch slashes across the top of each loaf.
  10. Spray salted water on top of the loaves.
  11. Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
