Ingredients

  • 1 cup potato water
  • 1 cup sweet milk
  • 1 cup melted shortening
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Heat potato water, sweet milk, and melted shortening.
  2. Let the mixture cool to lukewarm temperature.
  3. Add the dissolved yeast and beaten egg to the cooled mixture.
  4. Stir in sugar and salt.
  5. Gradually add flour, beating well until the batter reaches the consistency of thick pancake mix.
  6. Cover the bowl and keep in a warm place for 1 hour to ferment.
  7. After fermentation, add enough flour to knead the dough.
  8. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  9. Place the kneaded dough back into the bowl and let it rise until doubled in size.
  10. Punch down the dough, then spoon portions into greased muffin tins.
  11. Let the dough rise again until puffy.
  12. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
