Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 3 Tbsp. warm water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening, melted
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. warm water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 to 4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 3 tablespoons of warm water in a large mixing bowl; let stand 5 minutes.
  2. Add sugar, melted shortening, beaten eggs, 1 cup warm water, salt, and 2 cups of flour.
  3. Beat at low speed on an electric mixer for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  5. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead for 4 minutes or until smooth and elastic.
  6. Shape dough into a ball; place in a well-greased bowl, turning to grease the top.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm place (85°F), free from drafts, for 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
