Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 c. sour milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • preserves or jelly

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients except preserves.
  2. Chill dough overnight. Roll out dough.
  3. Cut into rounds and place 1 teaspoon preserves or your favorite jelly in middle of round.
  4. Cover with another cookie round and press edges together.
  5. Slit top.
  6. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
  7. Makes 5 dozen cookies.
