  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in shortening until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. Stir in buttermilk just until the dough is moistened.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
  6. Knead until smooth, about 1 minute.
  7. Roll out the dough to 3/4-inch (1.9 cm) thickness.
  8. Cut into 8 (2-inch) biscuits and place them 1 inch apart on a cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned.
