Ingredients

  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Pour the milk into a large saucepan and add salt.
  2. Scald the milk over medium heat.
  3. Remove from heat and add 1 cup of sugar, stirring until dissolved.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and vanilla together.
  5. Gradually add the hot milk mixture to the eggs, stirring constantly.
  6. Pour the mixture into a caramel-lined baking dish or ramekins.
  7. Bake in a water bath at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes or until set.
  8. Allow to cool, then refrigerate before serving.
