Fresh Turnips(Tops And Roots)
A hearty and flavorful dish combining tender turnip greens and roots, enhanced with bacon or ham, perfect for those who enjoy rustic, savory vegetables.

- Clean and wash turnip tops thoroughly (3 or 4 washes).
- After the last wash, take small bunches of leaves at a time and chop into small chunks.
- Place leaves in a large pot with about 1/2 quart water and your choice of seasoning, such as crumbled fried bacon or chopped ham.
- Add salt to taste and cook for at least 1 hour.
- Wash, peel, and cut turnip roots into pieces if your turnips have roots.
- Add the turnip roots to the cooking greens and cook until both tops and roots are tender, adding water as needed.
- Start cooking on high heat and lower to medium high once the mixture comes to a boil.
- If your turnips do not have roots, cook the greens until tender.
- Follow the same process for rutabaga tops and roots if used.
