Instructions
- Mix shortening and self-rising flour together with your fingers or a pastry cutter.
- Add buttermilk or sweet milk; the dough will be sticky.
- Place the dough on a lightly floured board and handle gently until firm enough to roll out 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut out biscuits and place them on a cookie sheet in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours.
- Once frozen, remove biscuits from the cookie sheet and place them in a plastic bag.
- When ready to cook, remove the desired number of biscuits and place them in a pan in a cold oven.
- Do not preheat the oven.
- Turn the oven to 450°F and bake the biscuits for 15 to 20 minutes.
