Ingredients

  • 2 cups unsifted self-rising flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk or sweet milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening and self-rising flour together with your fingers or a pastry cutter.
  2. Add buttermilk or sweet milk; the dough will be sticky.
  3. Place the dough on a lightly floured board and handle gently until firm enough to roll out 1/2 inch thick.
  4. Cut out biscuits and place them on a cookie sheet in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours.
  5. Once frozen, remove biscuits from the cookie sheet and place them in a plastic bag.
  6. When ready to cook, remove the desired number of biscuits and place them in a pan in a cold oven.
  7. Do not preheat the oven.
  8. Turn the oven to 450°F and bake the biscuits for 15 to 20 minutes.
