Fruit dumplings feature tender pastry filled with sweetened seasonal fruits, baked to golden perfection. Perfect for a comforting dessert or a delightful treat for family and friends.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. pastry flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 6 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 c. chopped or sliced fruit
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  1. Sift dry ingredients; add shortening and mix lightly with a fork.
  2. Add egg yolk to milk; add to dry mixture to make a soft dough.
  3. Roll half the dough 1/4-inch thick; cut into quarters.
  4. Fit each quarter into a muffin pan.
  5. Fill with chopped or sliced fruit and sweeten to taste.
  6. Pinch edges together on top to seal.
  7. Repeat with remaining dough and fruit.
  8. Bake in a hot oven at 425°F for 15 minutes.
  9. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  10. Use apples, peaches, strawberries, or rhubarb as fruit options.
