Garbage Can Spaghetti Sauce
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef, buffalo, or moose ⓘ
- 1 onion, chopped ⓘ
- 3 or 4 garlic cloves, minced ⓘ
- Whatever veggies you need to get rid of in the fridge (green peppers, celery, carrots, zucchini, etc..), chopped ⓘ
- 1 14-oz. can tomatoes or 3 or 4 chopped fresh ones ⓘ
- 1 can tomato sauce ⓘ
- 1 can tomato paste ⓘ
- 2 tbsp basil (or 1/4 c. fresh basil) ⓘ
- 2 tbsp oregano ⓘ
- 1 to 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1/4 to 1/2 tsp cayenne powder ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp cloves ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon ⓘ
- 1 tbsp cocoa ⓘ
- 1 bay leaf ⓘ
Instructions
- saute ground meat until brown.
- add veggies and saute until onions are translucent and other veggies are softened (but not mushy)
- Add tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomato paste. Stir until mixed and heated through.
- Add all spices and simmer for 20 minutes, adjusting spice balance as desired.
