Garlic Bubble Loaf

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. (1/4 oz.) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water (110~ to 115~)
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 6 1/4 to 6 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine (melted)
  • 1 Tbsp. dried parsley flakes
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  3. Add milk, sugar, shortening, salt and 2 c. flour; beat until smooth.
  4. Stir in enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  5. Turn out on a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
  6. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  8. Combine melted butter, parsley and garlic powder.
  9. Punch dough down; divide into fourths.
  10. Divide each portion into 12 pieces.
  11. Roll each piece into a ball.
  12. Dip into the butter mixture and place in two greased 9-in x 5-in x 3-in loaf pans.
  13. Pour any remaining butter mixture over dough.
  14. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  15. Bake at 375° for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  16. Cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pans; serve warm.
