Instructions
- Soak whole cucumbers in salt water 7 days.
- Take cukes out; wash (peel if desired) and slice.
- Soak in alum water for 24 hours.
- Be sure cukes are covered.
- Take cukes out and wash 3 times in water.
- Next, mix remaining ingredients.
- (For lighter pickles, tie spices in cheesecloth.)
- Bring vinegar, sugar and spices to a boil.
- Pour over cukes.
- Let set 4 days.
- Pack in jars.
- Bring pickling solution to a boil; pour over cukes and seal.
