Ingredients

  • 5 lb. cucumbers
  • 1/2 c. alum
  • 1/2 c. ginger
  • 2 pt. vinegar
  • 2 pt. water
  • 5 lb. sugar
  • 1/2 pkg. pickle spices

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut cucumbers into small strips.
  2. Soak the cucumbers in a mixture of 2 gallons of water and 3 cups of lime for 24 hours.
  3. Rinse the cucumbers well.
  4. Soak the cucumbers in alum and water to cover for 2 hours.
  5. Wash the cucumbers three times.
  6. Soak the cucumbers in ginger and water to cover for 6 hours.
  7. Rinse the cucumbers well.
  8. Drain the cucumbers.
