Ingredients

  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp. ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Heat the molasses to boiling point.
  2. Pour the hot molasses over the shortening.
  3. Sift together and stir this mixture into the flour, baking soda, ginger, and salt.
  4. Shape 1/4 of the mixture at a time, keeping the rest of the dough in the refrigerator until ready to cut out.
  5. Roll the dough as thin as possible and cut with a small, round cutter.
  6. Bake at 350° until crisp and dry, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Store well.
