Sweet Vidalia onions are soaked in vinegar and sugar, then mixed with mayo and celery salt for a tangy, sweet, and creamy appetizer perfect for crackers or salads.

Ingredients

  • 5 to 6 sweet Vidalia onions
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup sugar or artificial sweetening equivalent
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions and soak them overnight in a mixture of white vinegar, sugar, and water.
  2. Drain the onions well.
  3. Toss the drained onions with mayonnaise and celery salt.
  4. Serve on crackers, as a salad, or as an hors d'oeuvre.
