Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. soft shortening
  • 7 to 7 1/2 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup water and let it stand until frothy.
  2. Scald milk, then add sugar, salt, and soft shortening. Let the mixture cool to lukewarm.
  3. Pour the cooled milk mixture, dissolved yeast, and water into a large bowl with 7 to 7 1/2 cups of flour.
  4. Add eggs to the mixture and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and knead again briefly.
  7. Shape the dough into rolls or other desired forms.
  8. Let the shaped dough rise until doubled.
  9. Bake until golden brown and cooked through.
