Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of warm water and set aside until foamy.
  2. Sift flour and sugar together in a large bowl.
  3. Mix Crisco, 2 cups of warm water, and the dissolved yeast until well blended.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the sifted dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  5. Let the dough rise until doubled in size, covered with a clean cloth.
  6. Punch down the dough and refrigerate until ready to use.
  7. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured board to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Cut out rounds with a biscuit cutter.
  9. Place a pat of butter on half of each round, fold over like a fried pie, and seal the edges.
  10. Place the filled rolls in a greased muffin pan and let them rise until puffy.
  11. Bake in a preheated 425°F oven until golden brown, about 12-15 minutes.
