Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and shortening in a mixing bowl.
  2. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and add to the mixture.
  3. Add salt and flour to the mixture.
  4. Mix well until combined.
  5. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until about double in size, approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  6. Place the dough on a floured surface and knead for about 2 minutes.
  7. Let the dough rise again until doubled in size, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  8. Divide the dough into small balls about the size of a walnut.
  9. Place 3 balls in each cup of a greased cupcake pan.
  10. Let the rolls rise until about double in size.
  11. Bake at 400°F (200°C) until golden brown.
