Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
  • 2 egg whites

Instructions

  1. Mix first seven ingredients and pat into a well-greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
  2. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and press them into the mixture.
  3. Beat egg whites until stiff and then add 1 cup brown sugar.
  4. Spread this over bottom layer.
  5. Bake at 325° for 35 minutes.
