Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 egg whites
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 large orange

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sift together confectioners sugar and all-purpose flour, then mix.
  3. Combine egg whites, egg yolks, grated orange zest, and orange juice.
  4. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
  5. Lightly grease a baking sheet and mark 5-inch circles on the surface.
  6. Drop a spoonful of batter into each circle and spread evenly to cover the area.
  7. Bake one sheet at a time until edges are light brown and centers are soft, about 5 to 6 minutes.
  8. Quickly remove the cookies from the pan with a spatula and mold around an orange to create cup shapes.
  9. Allow the molded cookies to cool on a rack.
  10. Fill the hibiscus cups with fresh fruit, ice cream, or pudding.
