Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cream 1 cup sugar with 4 tablespoons of shortening.
  2. Add 1 cup milk, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat well.
  3. Add the mixture of 2 cups flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder, and 1 teaspoon salt. Mix until combined.
  4. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
