Ingredients

  • 2 cups white corn meal, sifted
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon onion flakes or minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper

Instructions

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Heat a deep skillet with 1/2 inch of cooking oil until about 400°F.
  3. Combine cold water with the dry mixture until it forms a thin batter that can be spooned out in 1/2 inch thick patties.
  4. Drop the batter patties carefully into the hot oil.
  5. Cook until the cornbread patties are golden brown on both sides.
