Ingredients

  • 3 qt. boiling water
  • 1 qt. loosely packed horehound leaves and stems
  • 4 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. dark corn syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. butter

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over the horehound leaves and stems.
  2. Steep for 5 minutes.
  3. Strain the mixture to extract the herbal infusion.
  4. Combine the horehound tea with granulated sugar, dark corn syrup, and butter in a saucepan.
  5. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches the hard crack stage (about 300°F or 149°C).
  6. Pour the hot syrup into a greased or parchment-lined pan and let it cool.
  7. Once cooled, break into pieces and serve.
