- Scald the milk.
- Stir in sugar, salt, oleo, and vanilla.
- Cool to lukewarm.
- Put warm water into a warm bowl and add yeast.
- Stir until dissolved.
- Stir in lukewarm milk mixture, 2 eggs, and 3 cups of flour. Beat until smooth.
- Add enough flour to make a soft dough.
- Turn out onto a lightly floured board.
- Knead until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes).
- Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double in size (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough.
- Turn out onto a lightly floured board.
- Knead in raisins until well distributed.
- Shape the dough as a loaf or braid.
- Bake at 375°F for 40 minutes.
- Brush with melted butter.
