Ingredients

  • 2 cups very warm water
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 cups flour (approximately)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar; let stand 15 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add approximately 2 cups of flour, egg, and shortening to the yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Stir in 1 cup more flour and salt.
  4. Gradually add 2 to 4 cups of flour to form a soft dough.
  5. Coat the dough with oil and let it rise for 3 to 4 hours.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  7. Pinch off pieces of dough and roll into balls.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased pan and coat them with oil.
  9. Let the rolls rise for 1 hour.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes.
