Ingredients

  • 1 cake yeast or 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 4 tablespoons melted Crisco or oil
  • 3 2/3 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm water and let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Add salt, beaten eggs, lukewarm milk, oil, and 2 cups of flour; beat thoroughly.
  3. Stir in the remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  4. Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk, then refrigerate overnight or use immediately.
  5. Remove from refrigerator and divide the dough in half.
  6. Roll out each portion in a circle; spread with melted butter and cut into 12 pie-shaped wedges.
  7. Start at the large end and roll up each wedge to form a crescent shape.
  8. Place on a greased baking sheet and let rise for about 3 hours or until doubled in bulk.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown.
