Ingredients

  • marinade (packaged) or olive oil and spices
  • 2 lb. fish (grouper, tuna, swordfish or other firm fish)
  • 12 flour tortillas
  • Homemade Tartar Sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the grill.
  2. Add fish to marinade; turn to coat all sides. Set aside until the grill is ready.
  3. If using fish chunks, thread chunks onto skewers.
  4. Place fish on the grill directly above the coals. Grill for approximately 2 minutes.
  5. Turn the fish and grill for 2 minutes longer until it springs back when poked.
  6. Remove the fish and set aside. If cooked as a steak, break into chunks, removing any bones.
  7. Spread the cooked fish in the middle of a warmed tortilla.
  8. Top with fresh lime juice and tartar sauce.

Tips & Substitutions

For an extra flavor boost, consider marinating the fish for at least 30 minutes. If you don't have a packaged marinade, a mix of olive oil, lime juice, cumin, and garlic powder works well. For a quicker option, use pre-cooked shrimp or other seafood recipes, like Fast And Easy Shrimp And Rice. If grilling isn't possible, try baking the fish in the oven.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these fish tacos with a side of Mexican rice or a fresh salad for a complete meal. You can also add toppings like avocado, diced tomatoes, or shredded cabbage for added texture. A squeeze of fresh lime juice enhances the flavors beautifully and pairs well with other Mexican recipes.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover fish in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, gently warm the fish in a skillet over medium heat, adding a splash of water to keep it moist. The tortillas can be warmed in the microwave or on a dry skillet for a few seconds to soften before serving.
