Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup oleo, softened
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (English walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a jelly roll pan (15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch).
  3. Mix sugar, oleo, and egg yolk until well combined.
  4. Add flour and cinnamon; mix thoroughly.
  5. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. Beat egg white with water until foamy.
  7. Brush the egg white mixture over the dough.
  8. Sprinkle chopped nuts evenly over the top, pressing lightly into the dough.
  9. Bake until lightly brown, about 20 to 25 minutes.
  10. Immediately cut into 3 x 1-inch squares while warm.
