Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sour cream or milk

Instructions

  1. Cream together shortening, sugar and molasses.
  2. Add egg.
  3. Sift and mix dry ingredients and spices and add to molasses mixture. Add the sour cream or milk.
  4. Bake in a 9 x 9-inch square pan at 350° for about 35 minutes.
