Ingredients

  • 1 gal. small to medium cucumbers, tightly packed
  • 2 Tbsp. pickling salt
  • 2 Tbsp. powdered alum
  • 1 (1.9 oz.) pkg. whole pickling spice
  • 4 c. vinegar
  • 4 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. Add the pickling salt, powdered alum, pickling spice, and vinegar to the gallon of cucumbers.
  2. Fill the jar with water and put the cap on.
  3. Let the jar set for 1 month.
  4. After 1 month, remove cucumbers from the jar and wash thoroughly, including the jar.
  5. Cut the cucumbers into chunks and put them back into the jar.
  6. Add sugar to the jar and shake to coat the cucumbers, continuing until the sugar melts and covers the cucumbers with juice.
  7. The pickles are now ready to eat.
  8. Keep the jar in the refrigerator.
