  2. Wash the pork shoulder steaks thoroughly.
  3. Melt shortening in the pan over a hot fire.
  4. Deep fry the pork in the hot shortening until browned.
  5. Season the fried pork with salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika.
  6. Drain the meat to remove excess oil.
  7. Drain the shortening from the pan.
  8. Add boiling water to the pan and simmer the pork until tender.
  9. Serve the dish with rye bread.
