Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 2 slices fat back
  • 2 lb hamburger meat
  • 3 cups carrots grated
  • 1 cup rice cooked
  • 1 large onion

Instructions

  1. Boil the whole cabbage in a large pot until tender.
  2. Remove the cabbage leaves and cut out the thick stem from each leaf.
  3. Fry chopped onion in fat back grease until translucent.
  4. Add hamburger meat to the onion and cook until browned.
  5. Drain excess grease from the meat mixture.
  6. Mix grated carrots and cooked rice into the meat mixture.
  7. Layer the bottom of a deep baking pan with some cabbage leaves.
  8. Take a cabbage leaf, hold it in your hand, and place a spoonful of the meat mixture inside.
  9. Roll up the cabbage leaf around the filling and place it seam side down in the pan.
  10. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling, arranging rolls in the pan.
  11. Pour enough water into the pan to cover the bottom.
  12. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour.
