Laotian Dried Beef

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs topside steak
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 4 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to very low heat 250 degrees.
  2. Trim any excess fat from the steak. Cut the steak into 1/8 inch thick slices, then into strips.
  3. Mix the salt, chili powder, pepper, sugar, garlic, sesame oil and peanut oil in a bowl.
  4. Add the steak and using your fingers, toss it in the oil mixture until coated.
  5. Cover and marinate for 4 hours in the refrigerator.
  6. Place the meat on a rack in a large baking dish and bake for 5 hours or until it has dried out.
  7. Cooking time does not include marinating time.
